10/30/2026 - Friday Night Music at Dancing Fish - Gideon Freudmann Live Cello Soundtrack to Silent Film "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari"
Gideon Freudmann Live Cello Soundtrack
to Silent Film "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari"
Friday Night Music
5:30-7:30 pm
In the spirit of spooky season and Halloween the following day, Gideon Freudmann, a versatile cellist and composer, will be performing live music cello as background accompaniment to a silent, vintage horror film!
The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari is a delightfully strange 1919 German Expressionist silent film. This early horror flick features the not-so-lovable Doctor and his sleepy sidekick Cesare, the somnambulist with too much eye-liner. A vampire may be more fearsome than a sleeping guy, but when he starts that slow walk with arms outstretched through the angular town, you better beware!
It’s a funny/creepy/poignant film about the mysterious doctor and the even more mysterious somnambulist under his control. Now you have a new vocabulary word you can employ to impress acquaintances whilst you casually discuss early German Expressionist films as you absently waive off the sommelier.
Gideon Freudmann, performs live soundtracks for classic silent films. His unique approach to the cell, blends extended technique with real-time digital effects to shapes his distinctive sound. Gideon’s modern accompaniment for films from a bygone era breathes new life into this historic art, bringing the best of cinema and live music to another level and to new audiences.
